Position
Assist brickmasons, blockmasons, and stonemasons in commercial and industrial construction: Use, supply and hold materials and tools; Clean work area and equipment; use equipment such as trucks, wheel barrows, lulls, saws, mortar mixers; Mix mortar; Use proper safety equipment and follow safety practices; Break or cut bricks, tiles, or blocks to size, using trowel edge, hammer, or power saw; Assist with constructing corners; Assist fastening brick or other building material to structure by setting wire clamps, wall ties, anchor holes, re-bar, reinforcing, or cement; Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs and levels; Mix specified amounts of sand, clay, dirt, or mortar powder with water to form mixtures; Lift 75 pounds; Work from, build, and move scaffolds. Brick washing; Organize work rapidly. Handle the trowel, level, and other hand tools properly.
The work is physically demanding because masons lift heavy materials and often must stand, kneel, and bend for long periods. Poor weather conditions may reduce work activity because masons usually work outdoors. Most masons work full time. Masons must be trained and have knowledge and experience with scaffolding systems, safety and first-aid practices, and quality control. They must be certified in some cases to handle construction material, such as scaffold construction, fall safety protection, fork lift operation.
Must be capable of negotiating flights of stairs to reach upper stories, have the ability to operate saws and heavy equipment, lift, carry, drag, or push materials or equipment up to 100 pounds, be able to get into and out of a vehicle and heavy equipment, be able to sit, stand, walk stoop, climb, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, squat, and balance, lifting material and/or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward for long periods of time, be able to work outdoors in an extreme hot, cold, dry, or wet environment, be able to work in hazardous or dangerous work areas or situations, have acceptable eyesight to perform job duties, have acceptable hearing to hear well on the telephone and in public contacts, have appropriate voice skills to be clearly understood on the telephone and in public contacts, have fine and gross motor skills and full use of fingers, hands, and arms to perform job duties, & have good cognitive skills and awareness of work accuracy.
Mandatory drug testing.
Must be able to obtain an access pass from the security personnel at a military base if necessary. You will need to provide: valid photo ID card or passport, address, valid Social Security card, & driver’s license number, valid registration card & liability insurance if you have a vehicle. To qualify, you must not have convictions of a felony within the last 10 years, outstanding criminal warrants of any type, & are not waiting on a court date for any criminal charges. Have not exhibited characteristics, traits or other indications that cause concern for the health, safety or welfare of personnel and/or residents or base security.
Must have reliable transportation to the job sites.

Position
Masonry workers, also known as Masons/Bricklayers/Blocklayers/Stonelayers for Commercial and Industrial Projects
A Journeyman Mason has at least three years’ experience. Employment is based on knowledge and ability more than years’ experience and are able to perform tasks on their own. Masons must know building code requirements to lay and bind building materials, such as brick, structural tile, concrete block, cinder block, glass block, and terra-cotta block, with mortar and other substances to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures.
Masons must handle the trowel, level, and other hand tools properly. Use layout tools and measuring devices. Use and operate related equipment such as a masonry saw, mortar mixer, and small jack hammers. Apply and smooth mortar or other mixture over work surface. Break or cut bricks, tiles, or blocks to size, using trowel edge, hammer, or power saw. Clean working surface to remove scale, dust, soot, or chips of brick and mortar, using broom, wire brush, scraper, or acid. Construct corners by fastening in plumb position a corner pole or building a corner pyramid of bricks, and filling in between the corners using a line from corner to corner to guide each course, or layer, of brick. Align structures vertically and horizontally, using levels and plumbs. Examine brickwork or structure to determine need for repair. Fasten or fuse brick or other building material to structure with wire clamps, anchor holes, or cement. Fill expansion joints with the appropriate caulking materials. Have knowledge and experience in installation of flashing and wall tie systems Use proper safety equipment and follow safety practices. They need to measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs and levels.
Insert steel rebar into cavities to insure structural integrity of walls. Pour grout to fill wall cavity to improve strength. Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and to calculate the materials required. Lay out patterns, forms, or foundations according to plans. Lay and align bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures or high temperature equipment, such as cupola, kilns, ovens, or furnaces. Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs and levels. Mix specified amounts of sand, clay, dirt, or mortar powder with water to form refractory mixtures. Remove burned or damaged brick or mortar, using sledgehammer, crowbar, chipping gun, or chisel. Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance.
